Press Tab to Move to Skip to Content Link Senior Financial ManagerAs a member of the Senior Management Team within Finance & Accounting (F&A), the incumbent works in close partnership with the Chief Operating & Financial Officer (COFO) to provide strategic input and direction on departmental operations, policies, procedures in F&A. The incumbent is instrumental in shaping and implementing organizational policies, strategies and systems that advance Jhpiegos business goals.Responsibilities:

  • Advises stakeholders across the organization on the effective application of financial policies and procedures to strengthen and align business development practices, procedures in support of international operations to the maximum extent possible
  • Collaborates with stakeholders within F&A to assess and improve cost structures and methodologies, ensuring compliance with internal and external policies, regulations and overarching strategies in the organization
  • Participates in strategic discussions and provides thought leadership where output may include new frameworks, methodologies, approaches to support operations within F&A
  • Monitors and communicates the effectiveness of F&A plans, programs and practices to the leadership team
  • Develops a quality, reliable and timely management reporting process to provide feedback and support on decisions related to actual results on both sponsored and non-sponsored funds to facilitate high level organization decision-making
  • Builds and presents reports, including ad-hoc, for management / leadership team(s) using various software, databases and associated tools i.e. spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages and graphic packages to assemble, ensuring accuracy and validity of all information included
  • Coordinates the preparation and interpretation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports as assigned
  • Trains staff on the appropriate use of departmental systems, software and tools
  • Provides financial information in support of the budgeting process related to the JHU five-year plan and non-sponsored and indirect rate accounts
  • Participates in staff learning, training and development events, for example Brown Bag Lunches, which foster acquisition of knowledge of Jhpiego advocacy, program and management efforts and a sense of shared organizational values
  • Leads the annual review and revision of Operations Manual updates on an annual basis
  • Leads the coordination of all worldwide country registration activities and processes
  • Assists the COFO with the annual budget narrative for the Provost budgetSpecial Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
    • Expert knowledge in financial analysis, financial reporting, cash flow analysis, budget development, forecasting
    • Expert knowledge of GAAP accounting rules
    • Expert knowledge in the use of financial software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and/or word processing required. Packages include: Microsoft Outlook, Access, Excel and Word plus university-specific accounting & reporting packages
    • Experience in public speaking and professional presentations
    • Experience in developing policies, procedures and systems relative to international finance and accounting practices
    • Established understanding of fringe, and indirect rate application and allocation methodologies
    • Sensitive to working in multiple socio-economic settings and with multi-cultural groups
    • Excellent skills in facilitation, team building and coordination
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage several major activities and conflicting priorities simultaneously
    • Strong decision-making skills and results oriented approach
    • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
    • Ability to work independently and provide leadership with recommendations
    • Advanced modeling in excel

      Minimum Qualifications
      • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field
      • 5 years' progressive experience in a Finance and Accounting or related function, inclusive of financial or cost management at a senior level
        • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula

          Preferred Qualifications
          • 7+ years progressive experience in Finance and Accounting
          • Finance experience in support of international development program operations
            • Previous experience working with international, non-profit organizations (larger than $100M), as well as a multi-office, multi-national environment
              • Knowledge of JHU policies and procedures
                • Experience in Board and SAP
