SMX is seeking a DevSecOps Engineer to support projects across the Cloud Business Unit focusing in on Defense and National Security Clients. The DevSecOps Engineer will engineer and develop technical solutions for high visibility client engagements. The DevSecOps Engineer must be a proven problem solver in technical disciplines as well as have a keen understanding of DoD IT related standards, frameworks, and policy. This is a hands-on role where the DevSecOps Engineer serves primarily as a technical Subject Matter Expert on automation working directly with clients and other DevSecOps Engineers, Cloud engineers, and Cloud Solutions Architects. This individual will bring a passion for technology, a strong technical skill set, and proven experience in DevSecOps Engineering exhibit best practices implementations.
Primary Responsibilities:



  • Define and engineer solution capabilities that satisfy customer business drivers / requirements


  • Act as a trusted advisor and DevSecOps SME for technical decisions during client engagements. Develop courses of action using innovative DevSecOps best practices and tools.


  • Position customers to adopt an "everything as code model" to support Development, Test, Production Environments. This includes identification of opportunities for DevSecOps automation utilizing infrastructure as code, security-as-code, compliance-as-code solutions, configuration as code, etc.


  • Establish DevSecOps Foundation including overall DevSecOps process realized in pipelines utilizing the appropriate toolchain to fulfill customer requirements for CI/CD.


  • Develop and utilize deployment and process automation capabilities (scripts, applications, platforms, cloud native services, APIs) to ensure processes are defined, repeatable, scalable, and able to be published for wider utilization; may include capabilities such as Ansible, PowerShell, Bash, Python, etc.


  • Take ownership of issues and act with high sense of urgency when required providing direct support to customers providing advanced technical support, troubleshooting direction, and complex problem resolution.


  • Produce clear and concise documentation including program-level, design artifacts for complete automation process and DevSecOps pipelines, as-built documents, and user level documentation to fully capture technical baselines and operational capabilities to guide operations and activities associated to enterprise scale cloud environments.


  • Provide advisory services for technical solutioning within DoD IT related frameworks, standards, and policies


    Required Skills & Experience


    • Current DoD Secret Level clearance or ability to obtain a Secret clearance


    • This role requires US citizenship required for work under DOD contract


    • Must be DoD 8570 IAT Level II certified. Some examples (CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC. Security+ CE. CND and SSCP)


    • 5+ years of experience in a role that encompasses DevSecOps Engineering.


    • BS/BA in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field or equivalent technical experience


    • Possess Associate level cloud related certification such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, Developer, etc.


    • Subject Matter expertise in one or more of the following DevSecOps Orchestration tools such as Jenkins, AWS Code Pipeline, Azure DevOps, Google Code Build, or equivalent tools.


    • A good understanding of foundational cloud components


    • Skills and Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, AWS Cloud Formation, Azure Resource Manager) as well as Source code repositories (Git) and Artifact repositories with integration and hooks to support the overall DevSecOps pipeline and CI/CD.


    • Skills and experience creating DevSecOps process and toolchains utilizing process orchestrations tools, Build Tools, Deployment tools, Scanning tool, and testing tools. Ability to Support developer, security personnel, and operations in the end-to-end creation and automate, build, test, and deployment of infrastructure and applications.


    • Delivery experience and working knowledge utilizing key Department of Defense guidance and governance including DoD Cloud Computing Security Requirements Guide and Risk Management Framework (RMF)


    • Skills in delivery areas of Cloud, IT Infrastructure, Architecture, and Security as well as hands on core system administration skills in Linux or Windows


    • Problem determination skills from design issues through packet level inspection to determine root causes of issues.


    • Experience with roll-out of large cloud based distributed systems with complex integration deployed utilizing DevSecOps pipelines.


    • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
