Job Description:
The Casualty Supervisor will coach, mentor, give general
oversight and guidance to the casualty team and examiners. They
will collaborate with casualty management and lead team to
determine coverage, refine investigations, formulate action plans,
develop negotiation tactics and drive litigation strategies to move
the claim towards resolution. They will also participate in
supervisor and committee reviews to develop, implement and assess,
claims processes and provide innovative solutions to common and
unique claim and coverage scenarios. Duties & Responsibilities:
Verify and approve timekeeping records and consult employees about
any discrepancies. Complete evaluations, progress reports and
personal improvement plans for all personnel under their
supervision. Document performance feedback and other personnel
matters. Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures and
undertake disciplinary actions if the need arises. Knowledge of
leave policies and coordinating with HR. Develop, monitor, and
support the completion of goals for all personnel under their
supervision. Conduct quality assurance and production review of the
employees under their supervision utilizing KPIs as determined by
management. Convey fiduciary responsibility to team and customers
in all communications and interactions. Provide and receive open
and authentic feedback through coaching and other daily
interactions. Assist casualty team members in claim development.
Interpret coverages, policy terms and conditions for broad
insurance areas and products. Provide in-depth coverage analysis,
pre-suit/in-suit oversight, reserve/settlement authority oversight.
Maintain active participation in the daily casualty team committee
review meetings. Collaborate with house and panel counsel members.
Collaborate with team to identify and ensure timely reporting of
potential bad faith matters, claims that may fall under the purview
of errors and omissions, and those that may need to be reported to
reinsurance. Responsible for working with the team and counsel to
set resolution and trial strategy. Casualty team member responsible
for reserves of one hundred million dollars or more. Review,
interpret and make decisions based on medical records, legal
documents, and all other documentation associated with the casualty
claim or any part thereof. Testify in litigation cases against NYCM
to substantiate the reasoning behind conclusions made by them
and/or direct reports. Communicate and document clearly, concisely,
and consistently in all casualty files and databases. Adjust
reserves. Continual enhancement of claim knowledge through
interaction with counsel, white papers, articles, books, and
seminars pertinent to claim handling processes and techniques. Stay
current on changing claims concepts. Open to sharing of knowledge
with the entire division. Other duties as assigned. Requirements:
High School Diploma 3 years of Casualty Examiner or Adjuster
experience Supervisors and managers are required to have completed
NYCM’s internal leadership development programs, including Employee
Enrichment Journey (EEJ1) and Employee Enrichment Journey (EEJ2).
External hires must complete required leadership programs, Employee
Enrichment Journey (EEJ1) and Employee Enrichment Journey (EEJ2).
Skills & Qualifications: Working knowledge and understanding of NYS
Insurance Law Section 5102(d). Knowledge of NYS Labor Law, Sections
240 & 241. Working knowledge of the casualty examiner position
including all duties and responsibilities. Full knowledge of
litigation process, negligence, proximate cause, causality and
impact on reserving and resolution of claims. Advanced
understanding of year-to-year impact of casualty reserve and
resolution on company financials. Proficient computer skills
including MS Office Excel, create and formulate spreadsheets. Keen
understanding of the human body and its various functions and
medical terminology. Ability to read and fully comprehend medical
reports and all other claim documents, and the potential impact of
claim value. Skilled in giving testimony. Excellent and effective
oral, active listening, and written communication skills. Excellent
negotiation, innovative thinking, and creative problem-solving
skills. Detail oriented with excellent time management skills.
Strong leadership skills with ability to effectively coach and
mentor team members. Team builder and team player. Market Range: 11
/ Exempt / 40 hours per week / 3 days in office Salary:
