We are currently seeking a customer-facing, hands-on Data Warehouse
Field Engineer with a track record of success to join us in
locations throughout North America. The position is ideally based
in the Northeast, but we can be flexible if you are the right
person for the job.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
You will be an expert technical representative for Cloudera's Data
Warehouse business out in the field - working with customers and
our other field teams. This is a hands-on technologist role. You
are not just doing slideware, you are solving technical problems,
architecting enterprise data solutions, and helping to design
overall data strategies for large organizations.
Apply your deep Cloudera Data Warehouse technical expertise to our
customers' toughest problems and biggest opportunities.
Be a thought leader internally and externally, creating assets and
enabling colleagues so you can scale your knowledge across the
company and the community.
Convince customers to migrate workloads from their legacy data
warehousing systems to Cloudera then work with the broader Cloudera
team to help them with the migration
Keep one foot in product & engineering and one foot in the field to
maintain the highest level of product expertise.
Collaborate closely and seamlessly with your peers across our
Presales, Professional Services, Sales, and Support teams.
Influence customer decision makers at the top of their org chart by
credibly driving the strategic analytics conversation.
Assist customer implementers at the middle and bottom of their org
chart to help shorten time to production.
Advocate internally on behalf of our customers to ensure we build
the best product for them.
Work with our most strategic partners in the data warehouse space
to help us jointly achieve success.
Present as an expert at industry events.
YOU MUST HAVE:
Administered, tuned, or developed applications on a big data
platform for real business use cases.
Implemented data warehousing solutions for real business use
Migrated a data warehouse, data mart, or large scale data
application from one platform to another.
Experience with the many ways of working with SQL - BI reporting,
data exploration, OLAP, ORM, query tuning, etc.
Developed production-grade software at some point in the last five
Managed a cloud environment or built applications to deploy onto
Spent a minimum of five years successfully working in a
The ability to triage competing demands for your time, factoring in
priorities related to customer success, sales goals, and strategic
Sales acumen to know how to properly position technical concepts at
just the right time in just the right way.
A curiosity to constantly learn more and, and excitement to share
that knowledge with others.
The ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
YOU MUST KNOW:
The big data world AND the data warehousing world.
How to educate a customer - conceptually and technically - on
moving from the legacy data warehousing world to the modern data
How to concisely and effectively communicate advanced technical
concepts to diverse audiences - via both verbal and written
The interplay between the scale and performance aspects of a data
model with its usability and business relevance.
What happens in each stage of an end-to-end data application: data
ingest, streaming analytics, data processing, BI/exploratory
The journey that enterprises take to grow from a data as an
irrelevant asset perspective to a data as the strategic driver
The product lifecycle: conception, design, development, release,
adoption, support, feedback, repeat.
IT WOULD BE GOOD IF YOU ALSO KNOW:
Databases: Relational, NoSQL, MPP, Cloud.
Distributed systems, CAP theorem, concurrency, troubleshooting and
tuning of distributed applications.
Data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence.
Approaches for high availability, disaster recovery, fault
tolerance, business continuity.
Streaming analytics, complex event processing.
