Job Description:
Overview:
Performs Radiologic procedures in a variety of settings and
locations on patients as ordered by licensed providers in an
ethical and professional manner according to hospital and
departmental policy, and according to any applicable New York State
guidelines. - Must assist in all aspects of the Radiology
Department operations.
Responsibilities:
Performs diagnostic MRI scans according to established
protocolsCarefully screens patients prior to examination, to assure
that there is no unknown existing condition(s) that would be
injurious to the patient. Technologist shall review and sign off on
final MRI screening sheet.Reviews the MRI Request and Physicians
Order for the existence of pertinent clinical information and
special instructions before performing the examination; obtains
clinical information where necessary. Check for insurance
preauthorization, if needed.Screens all females of child bearing
age regarding the possibility of pregnancy and reports any
questionable or positive responses to the Radiologist, Supervisor
or referring physician for guidance prior to beginning the
examination; documents this on the request.Is responsible for
completing the patient assessment and technologist note section on
the MRI Request and signing their name. Is responsible for
completing the examination, processing the images (including
previous examinations) and submitting to the appropriate
Radiologist for interpretation. Notifies Clerk if Radiology folder
is needed (previous not on PACS).Prepares and administers
prescribed dosages of oral and IV contrast. Performs venipuncture
and lock insertion according to established protocols. Performs - -
contrast media injections according to physician's orders and
department policy. - Prepares contrast form and enters into
computer.Is responsible for daily quality control procedures,
according to each unit's protocolAssists in the training and
clinical supervision of student technologists.When MRI unit is
disabled due to mechanical problems, reports service to appropriate
service personnel. Is responsible for notifying outpatients,
Nursing Floors, Physicians, Radiologists, Risk Management, PCC's
and other departments as needed. - Is also responsible for
rescheduling outpatients and inpatients for when the unit is
restored to full service. - Is responsible for entering equipment
failure in Risk Management (on-line program)Assures that all exams
are tracked and labeled correctly.Practices Infection Control
according to hospital policyOther duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must be licensed by the New York State Department of Health and be
registered by ARRT (Radiographer). - Must obtain ARRT (MRI)
credentials within two years. - Eligibility requirements will be
reviewed by employee and manager / supervisor. - In the event that
an employee has unsuccessfully attempted to become registered
within the required timeframe, the employee is granted a six-month
extension to become registered / credentialed. Must be New York
State Department of Health certified to inject IV contrast within
two (2) months of completing the orientation period.Will be
responsible for on call in MRI per union contract.Requires
sufficient sensitivity and interpersonal skills in dealing with
apprehensive patients and families in a professional and
compassionate manner.Requires positive and effective communicating
skills for interaction with physicians and staff in any
situation.Requires an ability to think and act quickly in order to
deliver efficient quality care in a variety of stressful
situations.Must be BLS certified (or obtained within 3 months).One
year of radiographer experience preferred. -As applicable, the
individual has training/competency in attending to the special
needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for
which care is being provided.
