Job Description

  • Grade(s): 5th - 8th Position Overview The Math Specialist is a mathematician leader responsible for implementing a comprehensive mathematician program at the assigned school by being a teacher model, supporting, and guiding teachers in best practices for mathematical instruction Duties/Responsibilities Curriculum Development and Instruction
    • Facilitate strong mathematic instructional strategies through:
      • Co-teaching to model mathematic instruction.
      • Observing and providing feedback.
      • Identify mathematic literature for use in all content areas in support of the curriculum.
      • Provide curriculum support and training for teachers.
      • Be a model of teacher techniques in a variety of settings (whole group and small group) and provide follow-up support.
      • In collaboration with school and regional leadership, select tier 2 instructional materials to meet student needs.
      • Supports School Leadership with organizational wide mathematic practices and policies.
      • Contribute to the ongoing development of mathematic related learning and development initiatives, specifically providing expertise to create a successful learning environment for students. Commitment to School and Classroom Culture
        • Facilitate strong reading instructional strategies through:
          • Co-teaching to model reading instruction.
          • Observing and providing feedback.
          • Identify literature for use in all content areas in support of the curriculum.
          • Provide curriculum support and training for teachers.
          • Be a model of teacher techniques in a variety of settings (whole group and small group) and provide follow-up support.
          • In collaboration with school and regional leadership, select tier 2 instructional materials to meet student needs.
          • Supports School Leadership with organizational wide literacy practices and policies.
          • Contribute to the ongoing development of Literacy related learning and development initiatives, specifically providing expertise to create a successful learning environment for students Family Engagement
            • Establish and maintain strong communication lines with all parents and share progress
            • Be available for open houses, parent teacher conferences and other events involving parents
            • Make him/herself available to students, parents and other staff members Growth Mindset
              • Pursue challenging professional goals each year
              • Willing to offer support and receive constructive feedback from colleagues in order to create a professional working atmosphere that is conducive to change and improvement
              • Participate in school-wide and individual professional development, including pre-service training over the summer and weekly during the academic year (held during school hours)
              • Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications
                • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College or University with a concentration in Mathematics or related fields of study required.
                • Master's degree in reading instruction is strongly preferred.
                • Valid NYS Teaching Licensure or willingness to pursue state certification required.
                • Minimum of four (4) years of experience as a Mathematic school educator, preferably in a charter or public school environment.
                • Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.

                    KIPP Capital Region offers a competitive salary ranging from $56,000 - $90,022. Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role and longevity within the KIPP network. KIPP Capital Region will evaluate and determine the step/level a new hire will be placed within our teacher salary scale at point of hire.
