41312BRReq No.:41312BRJob Description and Qualifications:Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, is seeking an experienced Operations Technician for its Glenmont, NY facility. The Glenmont, NY facility, located just outside Albany, consists of an Air Separation Plant with two Nitrogen Liquefiers supplying liquid nitrogen, oxygen, and argon to customers throughout the Northeast area. The production facility is owned by a Joint Venture between Air Products and Messer, with Air Products being the operator. Operators at this facility also support other local Air Products facilities in the New England region including but not limited to the Marlborough BHY transfill and the NE Generated Gases. There is a large distribution terminal and vehicle garage on-site, maintaining our fleet of tractors and trailers. Our businesses operate and require support on a 24/7 basis. The Glenmont site includes commercial drivers, plant operators, vehicle mechanics and support staff producing and delivering product to 500+ customers. Position will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting the equipment and facility. The basic function of this role is to provide necessary technical and hands- on support to continuously improve plant operation, maintenance, mechanical equipment integrity, reliability, cost, and on-stream factor. Technicians will be responsible for plant maintenance and plant operations on a regular basis as identified by the shift schedule. Responsibilities include:

  • Participate in the basic safety process as a key member of the Site Safety committee and sharing responsibility for the sites overall safety performance.
  • Provide day-to-day operation of the plant to support the plant on-stream, production and reliability targets.
  • Provide hands on support as required to resolve Instrument/Electrical/Mechanical/Operational field problems as they occur.
  • Interact with staff personnel to maintain operation of plant; assist in plant equipment mechanical repairs, instrument calibrations and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Develop maintenance procedures for maintenance tasks.
  • Investigate equipment failures, determine root cause of failure, and recommend appropriate solutions to reduce reoccurrence of/or eliminate cause of failure.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and periodic review of preventative/predictive maintenance programs to reduce unplanned shutdowns and improve overall plant on-stream capability.
  • Maintain an error-free execution. Pay very close attention to details and implement work to the highest possible standard. Apply a Continuous Improvement philosophy to daily work.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of minor and major shutdowns. Provide technical and hands- on support as required during shutdowns.
  • Provide troubleshooting expertise for the production units.
  • Follow Operating procedures.
  • Promote safety rules and regulations. Qualifications/ Requirements:
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Certificate in process technology or maintenance field (preferred) or 3 years minimum in a manufacturing/production, processing or chemical/ petrochemical environment. Participants in Skills USA are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong instrument and electrical proficiency is desired.
  • Validated commitment to safety and continuous improvement
  • Position may require weekends and on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis.
  • Must be a self starter and willing to work alone.
  • Candidates with a background in plant/refinery instrumentation and electrical systems is strongly preferred. Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to climb ladders and steps and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Be able to meet call-in requirements as needed.
  • Elevated work required. Military candidates and veterans are encouraged to apply! This position would be best suited for a Machinist Mate or Nuclear Trained individuals with specific focus on monitoring and maintaining propulsion systems, nuclear power or aircraft maintenance. Technical or vocational grads with a maintenance background or an AS degree, are encouraged to apply.
